HERE ARE A FEW TIPS ON HOW TO HELP YOU MANAGE YOUR PLANTS A LITTLE EASIER. MORE TIPS WILL BE ADDED SOON!
Pollinating your chilli plant
Chilies are generally self pollinating with both male and female parts in the same flower. However in a window where there is no breeze to help shake these parts into contact, it may be useful to follow these tips to make sure you get lots of chilies from your plant. There are many different ways people can help their chilies pollinate, here are 3 that should work.
- Give your chilli flowers a gentle tickle or shake every now and then to simulate the wind and breezes they would normally get outside.
- Use a cotton bud and gently rub each flower, taking pollen from each and passing it on to the next.
- very gently rub two flowers together, so that the pollen is spread between the two.
We hope these tips will give you a bumper crop of chilies!
Harvesting your Sunflower
You’ll be able to tell when your sunflower is ready to harvest by the colour of the back of its head. When the back of your sunflowers head turns brown and the head starts to shrivel, chop the head off with about 20cm of stem. The seeds should come out with a good rub with your hands or a brush, however if the seeds are difficult to remove they are not ready yet.
Once you have the seeds you should rinse them before you do anything else with them. Spread them out and leave them to dry on a towel or paper towels, and remove any debris that may have gotten in with them. Make sure the seeds are completely dry before use.
When you are about to plant your chosen SeeCell, try not to plant the whole 8 Cell’s at once. Plant one cell every few weeks and this way you will be able to have a constant fresh growth allowing you to manage your herbs in a more controlled manner.
